Malden, MO man charged with officer assault caught in a ditch

MALDEN, MO (KFVS) -

A traffic stop in Kennett, Missouri led to the arrest of one man on several charges.

Neal Bailey, 24, of Malden, Mo was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center for resisting arrest, two counts of assault second-degree on a law enforcement officer, and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner. It should also be noted that Bailey was also arrested on an active Malden Municipal warrant.

According to the police, at 12:30 a.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle on First Street. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Bailey who refused to stop and led officers on a vehicle pursuit. Police said during the pursuit he attempted to strike a patrol vehicle in the Wal-Mart Parking lot.

Police said Bailey kept driving east on U.S. 412, then turned north on County Road 431 and west on County Road 442 then north on East Avenue and into the Watson addition. The vehicle exited the Watson addition and travelled north on Highway 25 exiting the city limits.

The pursuit continued into New Madrid County where the suspect continued driving on several county roads and through a field.

Bailey finally came to a stop on New Madrid County Road 246, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot according to officers.

After a foot pursuit, officers caught Bailey in a ditch and took him into custody. Bailey was transported to and held in the Dunklin County Justice Center where he was placed on a twenty-four-hour hold.
