Volkswagons Rule The Day

September 17th, 2005-- Posted at 9:15 p.m. CDT

Jonesboro, AR-- Punch bug.....red, green, gold or even a limo, all Volkswagons came out for the 5th Annual Northeast Arkansas Volks Folks Car Show. An event that registered over 40 different Volkswagons at the Indian Mall in Jonesboro.

"You see a lot of other shows, open car shows that have chevy or fords you see those everywhere but this show is unique," said show coordinator, Don Smith.

Even though Volkswagon is a German company, Volkswagon vehicles are a piece of Ameracana pop culture. The Volkswagon Bug has had major roles in the Disney Love Bug series and has popped up in other major movies includeing the "The Bullet" starring Steve McQueen.

In addition to being a slice of American pie it works out as a worthwhile pasttime for the Volks Folks.

"Its a good hobby for someone that doesn't want to spend a lot of money to get into it, it's very reasonably priced, you can buy one already built from someone at a reasonable price," said Smith.

In addition to being reasonably priced the V.W.'s are not as difficult to fix as other conventional cars. And with the price of gas well over $2.50 most Volkswagons get over 25 miles per gallon of gas.

If you are interested in Volkswagons and want to get hooked up with the Northeast Arkansas Volks Folks you can call 870-523-3762 or email them at neavolksfolks01@hotmail.com.
