JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Low-income shoppers at Arkansas State University's Farmers Market received great news Tuesday.
The Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention selected the market for its Double-Up Food Bucks program.
The grant, worth $2,000, allows customers with food stamps to receive double their money.
"So if they run their card for $20, we will give them an additional $20 to spend on produce," Ella Ellingson, manager of ASU Regional Farmer's Market, said. "So they'll leave the market with $40 worth of merchandise."
The program will also increase sales for local vendors.
The market is open Tuesday's and Saturday's and houses anywhere from 25 to 40 vendors.
