JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The busy Jonesboro intersection of Dan Avenue and Henson Road will soon have a railroad signal upgrade and new traffic signals.

Some people in the area are relieved the projects are finally underway.

For years, the railroad crossing at Henson Road did not have cross arms, leaving employees and residents in the area on edge.

The project to add cross arms is currently underway.

Due to the proximity of the crossing to Dan Avenue, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said a traffic signal is required at the intersection to get the crossing arms installed.

"It's really a long time coming," Derek Lard, Jonesboro resident, said. "That intersection hasn't had a light, hasn't had crossing guards ever. I've never seen an accident but still, you'd always like to have those arms as a safety precaution. There's trains coming through here every day."

The traffic volume of cars compared to the traffic volume of trains play a big roll in bringing this project to fruition.
