LITTLE ROCK, AR - The latest effort in Governor Huckabee's Healthy Arkansas iniiative is a pocket-sized guidebook that nutritionists see as a tool to develop healthier lifestyles.
Huckabee previewed the book this morning at the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock, along with corporate sponsors Gerber and Eli Lilly. The Healthy Arkansas Better State of Health Guidebook is available in English and Spanish. The guidebook offers specific information about healthy activities available in the state's 75 counties and nutrition information for men, women, children and seniors.
The book is available at Wal-Mart Supercenters, county health offices or online. Two hundred thousand copies were printed in the initial run at a cost of $400,000. Jonesboro's Wal-Mart Supercenter on Highland Drive will host a Gerber-sponsored Healthy Arkansas Nutrition Days Wednesday, where parents will have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with a nutrition counselor to discuss healthy eating habits for infants or toddlers. In-store nutrition counselors will also be distributing the new guidebook. The event begins at 10 a.m. and will continue through 3:30 p.m.
Huckabee launched Healthy Arkansas in May 2004 as a program to promote physical activity, healthy nutrition and curb tobacco use statewide.
