Jonesboro Man Awaiting Rape Trial in New Hampshire

SEPTEMBER 22, 2005 - Posted at 8:08 a.m. CDT

CONCORD, NH - The first of three magazine salesmen charged in the gang rape of a 19-year-old Concord, New Hampshire, woman has been convicted of three counts of rape.  The two men to be tried later include one from Jonesboro.

In a trial that ended yesterday, 25-year-old Joseph Haniffy of Chicopee, Massachusetts, was acquitted of two other charges, sexual assault and conspiracy.  The trial was held in Merrimack County Superior Court at Concord.

Yet to be tried are 19-year-old Cassidy Coburn of Monroe, Utah, and 23-year-old Christopher Armstrong of Jonesboro.

The three men say the woman who brought charges consented to sex.  The woman testified she met the man when Coburn and Armstrong knocked on her door on March 28 to sell magazines, helped themselves to a beer from her refrigerator, offered her one and played a kissing game.  But she said she did not agree to sex.

The woman said Haniffy, who showed up later, forced her to perform oral sex on him and then the three raped her.  They were arrested a few days later in Maryland.
