MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - According to Mississippi County Sheriff Dale Cook, a body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock for an autopsy after the body was discovered this weekend in the Mississippi River.
A towing service that was standing in place in the river around 1:30 p.m. Saturday found the body about a mile south of Sans Souci Landing near Osceola. Cook said the towing service put a Jon Boat into the water to retrieve the body and then contacted authorities.
The body was found on the Arkansas side of the river, Cook said, noting authorities do not have any information on who the person is. The department does not have any current missing person's cases and Cook said an autopsy can help determine the person's identity as well as a cause of death.
Authorities are also asking anyone with information to call the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department at 870-762-2243 or 870-658-2242.
