LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ Governor Huckabee canceled a visit to a Siloam Springs refugee camp tomorrow so he could closely monitor the weather and direct the state government's response.

In the wake of two Gulf Coast hurricanes, he urged Arkansans to conserve fuel to avoid serious gasoline shortages. Huckabee said there is NO need to panic and hoard resources. He urged residents to help moderate gasoline price increases by only filling tanks when they're less than a fourth full, reducing unnecessary travel, and observing posted speed limits.

Hurricane Katrina hit August 29th and Hurricane Rita made landfall early this morning on the Texas-Louisiana border, bringing a 20-foot storm surge and up to 25 inches of rain. A key oil refinery region was hit by Rita with less force than feared, but industry officials say it is still too early to assess the full extent of the damage.
