TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) - The new school year means a new speed limit near an area elementary school.

It's an area that used to allow 25 miles per hour speeds, but now it's knocked down to 15.

And the Trumann Police Department wants to make sure everyone is aware of the switch.

New school zone speed limit signs are up, and police are out making sure they're followed.

It's on Willow Avenue, right in front of Trumann Elementary School.

With so many kids in the area, Sgt. Logan Thomas said their department is keeping a closer watch.

"Traffic has increased dramatically and complaints are going up so we will be watching our school zones very carefully right now," Thomas said. "It's imperative that people slow down and obey those signs because they're there for the kids."

Trumann police have even posted information about the change on their Facebook page, trying to get the word out.

And Sgt. Thomas said in those school zones, people caught speeding should also expect a fine.
