LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas officials are hoping that federal disaster relief for Hurricane Rita comes with what the state hopes to receive for its relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina.
Governor Huckabee says what the state is doing for Hurricane Rita evacuees is just an extension of help the state has provided for Katrina evacuees. Huckabee says submitting separate declarations would be a bureaucratic nightmare and he hopes federal officials will combine the requests. Hundreds of refugees were sent to Arkansas from Texas last week as Rita approached the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast, joining as many as 50,000 already in the state because of Hurricane Katrina.
