West Memphis Police Arrest Teenager in Connection with Fatal Fire

SEPTEMBER 28, 2005 - Posted at 3:32 p.m. CDT

WEST MEMPHIS, AR - West Memphis police arrested a teenager and charged him with capital murder in the death of a 15-year-old who died in a fire at his townhouse on September 14.

Police say 18-year-old Keltric Gilmer burglarized a townhouse and vehicles, then set a fire to cover his tracks.  Investigators said Gilmer likely knew people were inside because cars were present outside.

Nick Wilson died in the blaze.  Assistant Police Chief Mike Allen says Gilmer had contacted police at the scene of the fire and told officers that he was riding by on his bicycle when he heard a woman screaming from a second-story window.

Property stolen from the residence was found a week after the fire in a field near an abandoned apartment complex.

Prosecutors will decide whether to pursue the death penalty.
