6 Counties Hit by Tornadoes Eligible for Aid

October 1,2005-Posted at 9:30 p.m.CDT

LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ State officials say residents of six counties where tornadoes touched down on Saturday can apply for state aid to help with recovery from the storms. Homeowners or renters in Chicot, Conway, Drew, Lonoke, Pulaski, and White counties may be eligible for the assistance if they suffered damage from the tornadoes. That's according to a news release from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management.

The agency said the assistance is available from two programs-temporary housing assistance grants, for victims whose primary residences were destroyed or are uninhabitable-and a state Health and Human Services Department program that helps disaster victims with serious needs or necessary expenses stemming from the storms.
