GRUBBS,AR (AP) _ A huge log jam on the Cache River in northeast Arkansas has been years in the making and causes chronic unwanted flooding of farmlands and roads.
Deputy Director Loren Hitchcock of the state Game and Fish Commission says several decades of sedimentation have contributed to the jam near the town of Grubbs. A study is now under way to determine how to remove the obstruction.
Craighead County Judge Dale Haas says there won't be a quick fix. The 60-thousand-dollar study is being funded by the Game and Fish Commission, the Arkansas Soil and Water Conservation Commission, the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and Craighead and Jackson counties.
