October 2, 2005 -- Posted at 4:51 p.m. CDT

JONESBORO -- A ''soft'' opening is held Sunday in Jonesboro for the new JcPenney store at The Mall at Turtle Creek. Karen Griffin with JcPenney said, "It's going to be a tremendous asset to the city and we are very excited that we are the first retail store to open in the new mall.''  The mall has been under construction for about a year and a half.

To celebrate their grand opening the store will be giving away a car, tv's, laptop computers, and 250 dollar gift certificates. But it's not just the prizes that are bringing in the crowds.

The JcPenney store at Indian Mall is now closed, and Griffin says it was about time. ''We have outgrown our old store. We have been hearing about a new mall new store for about 12 years now, so we are very excited that this time has come.''

Target will have it's soft opening on October fourth, and their grand opening on Sunday, October ninth.  Other stores at The Mall At Turtle Creek are expected to open in March of 2006.
