State Rep McDaniel Safely Lands Plane after Experiencing Engine Problems

OCTOBER 10, 2005 - Posted at 7:55 a.m. CDT

JONESBORO, AR - Mechanical problems plagued a flight home for state Represenative Dustin McDaniel of Jonesboro yesterday afternoon.  McDaniel was piloting his 1982 Piper Saratoga from Little Rock to Jonesboro after a weekend of campaigning for attorney general when the plane's alternator failed while he was between Augusta and Newport.

Air traffic controllers in Memphis declared McDaniel to be in an emergency.  McDaniel however, decided to finish his trip home and safely landed the plane in Jonesboro.  He has been a pilot since 2002.

McDaniel said he would resume campaign trips by air after he has the alternator replaced.
