LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Huckabee says the idea of federal military intervention in state emergencies is a bad one. Huckabee responded to suggestions by President Bush that the military take charge of responding in major natural disasters. The Arkansas governor heads the National Governor's Association, which recently criticized the notion of military control in such cases.
Huckabee says it is one thing for states to request federal assistance, but that having the military take charge of responses to disasters in the states would be treading on dangerous constitutional boundaries.
