LITTLE ROCK, AR - The state attorney general's office is defending the state Legislature in the school funding case. The AG's office said in court filings yesterday that Arkansas Supreme Court fact-finders reviewing state education ignored relevant facts and paid too little attention to accountability and spending oversight.
The fact finders concluded the Arkansas Legislature backtracked from a commitment to adequately fund public education and the attorney general's office is defending the legislators.
Lawyers for school districts challenging the adequacy of education dollars approved during this year's regular session praised the report and asked the high court to declare Arkansas' school funding system unconstitutional for the second time in three years.
