LITTLE ROCK, AR - Time to get your flu shots.  As the flu season starts in Arkansas, state health officials are advising all Arkansans to get flu shots.

A spokeswoman for the Arkansas Department of Health said the best time to get vaccinated is now through early December.  Ann Wright said the vaccine loses its strength over time and that it takes two weeks for the vaccine to make a person immune to the flu.

The department will begin administering flu shots Monday at local health units, and has 213,000 doses of the vaccine.

No Arkansans have been diagnosed with the flu so far this season.  According to othe federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, neighboring Texas was the only state reporting regional flu activity.  Twelve states - Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Wyoming, were reporting sporadic cases of the virus.
