JONESBORO, AR -- The Valley View School District snagged the number one spot for last year's golden apple award…and it was two for two this year. Announced Tuesday night at the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock, the school again ranked number one in the state. And with Region 8 having the number one school district in Arkansas's having a slow but steady impact on real estate in the area.
Currently there are more than 100 houses on the market in the Valley View School District with another 24 expected to close by Christmas. And it certainly doesn't hurt sales that the school district has been ranked number one in the state two years in a row.
“Any seller would probably want you to advertise that. And so staying within the ethics of the real estate commission that is what we would do,” said Crye-Leike realtor Felicia Long, “It would be a great selling point, like if we were selling a house close to the new mall or close to the hospital.”
It's good news for home owners in the district and while sales haven't spiked yet, the numbers are right on course.
“In August 2003 to May 2004 there were 144 houses sold. But between August 2004 and November of this year, right now 238 houses have been sold. So there has been a fairly decent increase in the valley view school district,” said Long.
The increase could be attributed to new developments, as several new subdivisions are going up in the area.
Long said, “Valley View does have a higher mil then other districts around it, and they do have higher priced subdivisions there so that is about the norm.”
With home owner sales up 65% from last year, it's not surprising that the school has enrolled 200 more students.
