Hino Update: Marion Officials Says Equipment for Parts Plant Being Shipped

NOVEMBER 3, 2005 - Posted at 7:39 a.m. CST

MARION, AR - The top industry recruiter for the city of Marion says machinery to equip a truck parts factory in Crittenden County is on its way from Japan on ocean freighters.

Kay Brockwell, economic development director for Marion, said work is nearly complete on over $3 million in improvements at a Hino Motors Manufacturing USA Incorporated truck parts plant, which will make axles.  That work is now under construction.  Brockwell said the work should be finished just in time to accomodate equipment being shipped from Japan aboard ten freighters.

Brockwell estimated that it would take more than 900 trucks to haul the machinery from docks in Savannah, Georgia, and Houston to Marion.  She said seven boat loads of machinery will be for the axle-making operation, while three will have machinery for a stamping plant.

The ships are scheduled to arrive at ten-day intervals beginning November 28.  The final load is expected to arrive in Savannah on January 28.
