Prison System Votes to Issue Bonds for New Facility

TUCKER, AR - The state Board of Corrections has agreed to issue bonds to finance a $40 million facility for caring for elderly and chronically ill inmates.

The unit will have 862 beds and is to be built at the Ouachita River Correctional Unit at Malvern.  Construction is to start next year.

The prison system is to save as much as $15 million in construction costs by using inmate labor.
