WALNUT RIDGE, AR - Clean-up gets underway this morning in the Walnut Ridge and Hoxie area after strong thunderstorm activity produced widespread damage across the two towns yesterday around noon.

Strong straightline winds or possibly a tornado overturned an 18-wheeler on U.S. 412 just outside the city limits. Several road signs were also knockec down.  There were also downed power lines and tree limbs across town in many neighborhoods, while windows were blown out in some businesses.

The Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home lost power, and operated on a back-up generator for a short time.

The Hoxie school campus also sustained significant damage, and classes have been canceled today.  Classes are expected to resume tomorrow.
