Severe Weather Turns Deadly

November 27, 2005--Posted at 10:45 p.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK-- Arkansas State Police confirm tonight that a traffic fatality on Interstate 40 is related to the strong storms and tornados that have been raking the state all evening.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler said a car traveling was traveling in Conway County near Plumerville where a lumberyard was hit by high winds, scattering pieces of wood on both sides of the highway. Sadler said whether the lumber played a role in the accident is still under investigation, but a car was traveling west on the interstate when it overturned and was thrown into the
eastbound lanes.

Interstate 40 was closed for troopers to clear the road and respond to the accident, but Sadler said the highway is now open.

Sadler also said that Arkansas State Police are working to get a trooper into the community of Perry in Perry County where they believe a tornado has struck.

The National Weather Service also reports that in Perry County the storm has caused damage to a home and emergency workers rescued a person trapped in their home.
