Harding Quits As Fort Smith Administrator

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) _ Fort Smith city administrator Bill Harding has resigned, effective immediately.

Harding was arrested Sunday morning for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. Police say Harding hit a car in a church parking lot and briefly left the scene.

Harding has since acknowledged he has been fighting an alcohol problem. The city council scheduled an executive session today to discuss Harding's Sunday arrest.

The city will conduct a search for a new administrator. Two assistant city administrators and other staff members will fill in for Harding until a new administrator is hired.
