PARAGOULD-- A new shop hat managers say will employ around 100 people when it reaches full production is spraying on the paint at American Railcar Industries in Paragould.

The Track-3 Paint Shop was used to paint railcars for the first time last week, and should take some of the workload off American Railcar Industries' paint shop at Marmaduke.

The new 13 million dollar shop has the capacity to paint eight railcars a day and should reach full production in the near future. Currently, about 28 people work there.

The state and city both helped get the new shop built and operational.

Arkansas gave A-R-I a grant to build a storage track, where cars are kept before and after they are painted. The city helped A-R-I by quickly getting utilities in place for the new plant.

The shop covers about 100-thousand-square feet and can accommodate railcars up to 89-feet long.
