Demolition of Busch Stadium Expected to be Completed Tonight

DECEMBER 7, 2005 - Posted at 4:26 p.m. CST

ST. LOUIS, MO - The last standing section of the old Busch Stadium will be demolished by tonight.

Crews have been tearing down the historic ball park for one month, and expect to finish the task about two weeks ahead of schedule.

Ninety-six arches once adorned the stadium's canopy, but only a few remain.  The project manager says the last pieces will be torn down during tonight's shift.

After a slow start, demolition crews picked up speed and have knocked down one or two arches each day.

With the clock ticking, fans are lining the sidewalks, taking pictures, and making memories while they can.  A new stadium is being built alongside the old structure and will also be called Busch Stadium.
