JONESBORO- Winter is still a couple of weeks away officially, but Region 8 is already seeing frigid conditions. And during these cold times, there are certain things that you need to do to protect you investment.

Tip 1- Cover all outside faucets to prevent them bursting. Use a foam insulated cover specifically made for outdoor faucets. As a last resort, use a towel.

Tip 2- Be sure that you have de-icer on hand because a small amount of moisture can start the formation of ice on your driveways and sidewalks even if there is no precipitation falling from the sky.

Tip 3- Duck tape around all windows to keep the cold air from entering your home. If possible, use a sealant like caulk or weather stripping. Install these products during warmer periods of the winter.

Tip 4- For your animals, get a heat lamp and install it near their bed, especially if they have to sleep outside. An animal left unattended in the cold can fall into hypothermia in as little 1 hour.
