JONESBORO--Congressman Marion Berry says the counties containing the cities of Jonesboro and Paragould have been designated a Combined Statistical Area.

The designation announced yesterday was bestowed by the Office of Management and Budget. Berry said it will help the cities attract new businesses and secure more federal funding for economic development projects.

The Combined Statistical Area would have a population of 125,166,-- 86,191 in Craighead County and 38,975 in Greene County.

Berry said the designation would open new doors for the two counties. He said businesses will pay more attention to the Jonesboro and Paragould areas and government will invest more money
into the community for new roads, infrastructure, and other development needs.
