VIOLA, AR - A Fulton County man accused of antagonizing a neighboring family for months has been sentenced to eight years in prison for killing the family dog and other charges.

John Anthony Cantrell, 40, of Viola, pleaded guilty to animal cruelty, drug trafficking and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Authorities say Cantrell shot his neighbors' dog with two arrows and then hung the animal in a tree.  Police say Cantrell threatened to kill the dogs' owners in a similar fashion.

Authorities who searched Cantrell's home and property found steel traps and nail strips in the yard, a number of assault rifles with night vision scopes and other weaponry.

Investigators also say they found marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Cantrell is being held in the Izard County Jail until there is room in a state prison.
