Deadly House Fire Kills Three

December 17, 2005--Posted at 10:45 p.m. CST

FOUNTAIN LAKE --A spokesman for the Garland County
sheriff's office says a house fire that took the life of three
children early this morning at Fountain Lake started in a heating
unit underneath the floor of the home.

Lieutenant Rodney Neighbors of the sheriff's office identified
those killed as 15-year-old Christopher Cox Junior, ten-year-old
Trisha Cox and two-year-old Shantelle Burroughs. Neighbors said the
Cox family had legal guardianship of Shantelle, but he did not
specify her relationship to other members of the family.

Neighbors said Christopher Cox, the home owner, had left to pick
up his wife, Kelly, at work, when his 13-year-old daughter, Jessica
Cox, called and said their house was on fire. Neighbors said the
fire was reported at one-oh-three a-m by a passerby.

Fountain Lake Fire Chief Alan Ault said that, when firefighters
arrived at the one-story, brick-and-fram home off Arkansas Five,
the residence was engulfed in flames. Neighbors said Jessica was
able to get out of the house.
