School Officers Carry Electric Stun Guns

DECEMBER 22, 2005 - Posted at 3:55 p.m. CST

ROGERS, AR - Four officers who work in Rogers schools are carrying Taser stun guns this school year.

The non-lethal electric stun guns fire darts that shock and immobilize people.

Rogers police spokesman Corporal Kelly Cradduck said the Tasers could prevent more injuries if a fight or shooting were to break out, especially if the aggressor was a student.

He said the electric stun guns could also help in case a custody dispute turns violent at a school.

Some police departments have stopped using the guns because of concerns that they might be deadly under certain circumstances.

The maker of the guns, Arizona-based Taser International, has said that the stun guns alone don't cause death.
