WEST MEMPHIS, AR - Arkansas' Post Prison Transfer Board has recommended clemency for a man convicted of murder in Crittenden County.

Charles Bradford, 49, was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole in 1990 in Crittenden County Circuit Court for the brutal 1989 murder of West Memphis resident Yvonne Parker.  The 27-year-old woman was attacked in her West Memphis home in November of 1989 before her husband and son returned home to find her dead of multiple stab wounds in her kitchen floor.  Robbery was the apparent motive for the crime.  Police say the victim had also been kicked and beaten.

Police say Bradford confessed to the crime during questioning.  Case file records state that Bradford told investigators that he was "high on crack and asking for money."

Bradford later recanted the statement and pled 'not guilty' to the crime, but he was found guilty in a jury trial and sentenced to life without parole.

The board's recommendation asks Governor Mike Huckabee to significantly reduce Bradford's sentence, making him eligible for parole.  There is no word at this time on when Huckabee will rule on the case.
