HOT SPRINGS, AR - A state fire official says there have been nearly 100 wildfires in Arkansas in the first days of 2006. Mark Reed of the Arkansas Forest Commission says this is one of the worst fire seasons in recent years. Dry, warm conditions have created more fires.
Tonja Kelly of the Arkansas Forest Commission said there were several small fires reported in the state by early this afternoon, though none were major.
More than 50 Arkansas counties have issued burn bans, including Craighead. Craighead County Judge Dale Haas issued ban on all outdoor burning within the county this morning.
