JEFFERSON CITY, MO - The Missouri Supreme Court today set February 1 as the date for the state's first execution in 2006.

Michael Taylor pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, forcible rape, armed criminal action and kidnapping for a March 1989 killing of a Kansas City teenager.

Taylor and his accomplice, Roderick Nunley, have said they were using drugs before they decided to steal 15-year-old Ann Harrison's purse.  Court records say Taylor raped Harrison in the basement of Nunley's mother's house before they stabbed her ten times.

Missouri is one of 38 states with the death penalty.  It executed five people in 2005.
