Formal Charges Now Filed Against Suspects in Slaying of Cave City Man

JANUARY 6, 2006 - Posted at 8:16 a.m. CST

NEWPORT, AR - Formal charges have now been filed against a Sharp County couple accused in the January 2 murder of a Cave City man.

Third Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce yesterday said a finding of probable cause was made and capital murder charges were filed against 42-year-old William Young, and 34-year-old Leslie Young, both of Cave City.  The Youngs are charged in the stabbing death of 38-year-old Stephen Furr, also of Cave City.

Furr's body was found Monday by his ex-wife and two children.  Sharp County Sheriff Dale Weaver said it appeared that Furr and the Youngs had been partying in the hours before the slaying.

District Judge Mark Johnson appointed Sharp County public defender R.T. Starken to serve as Leslie Young's attorney, while public defender David Throesch will represent William Young.

The Youngs are to appear before Sharp County Circuirt Judge Harold Erwin on January 24.
