LITTLE ROCK, AR - A legislative subcommittee has advanced a new rule proposed by the state Public Service Commission that would prevent natural gas service being cut off for nonpayment in the winter months.
An earlier rule by the PSC halted cutoffs only when temperatures were below freezing. The commission broadened the rule because of higher natural gas costs this winter.
The cutoffs are prevented for people in certain categories, such as senior citizens and people receiving government aid. Those who qualify to have their service left on must arrange a payment schedule that runs through the warmer months.
