Paragould to Get Healthy Share of HUD Money

JANUARY 6, 2006 - Posted at 1:28 p.m. CST

FORT WORTH, TX - It will soon be easier for senior citizens and people with disabilities in Greene County to find affordable housing, thanks to a share of more than $710 million in housing assistance announced today by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Alphonso Jackson.

Arkansas is to get more than $8.3 million for projects, with $1,299,300 of that money earmarked for the White River Housing Development Corporation in Paragould.  The money is to be used to help low-income elderly and people with disabilities "find decent, safe housing that they can afford."

In Paragould, the funds will be used to construct 19 one-bedroom units.  The project will include a community space, and a library for a Neighborhood Network program providing two computers with high-speed Internet access for residents.  The facility will also enable the elderly to maintain their independence and have the ability to receive supportive services.
