Concrete Poured for New Washington Avenue Overpass This Morning

JANUARY 6, 2006 - Posted at 2:16 p.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - Contractors building the new Washington Avenue overpass on U.S. 63 in Jonesboro took a big step forward this morning when they poured concrete for the structure's bridge deck.

Work began on the large-scale project approximately one year ago, and is expected to be completed at about this time next year.  Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department District 10 Engineer Joe Barnett says the project is another step in making the section of 63 between Jonesboro and its junction with Interstate-55 in Crittenden County ready for federal Interstate status.

The roadway will eventually be known as Interstate-555.
