Teen Homicides Causing Growing Concern in Memphis

JANUARY 11, 2006 - Posted at 3:49 p.m. CST

MEMPHIS, TN - There's growing concern about teen homicides in Memphis.

Three youths have been shot to death since the start of the year.  There were 15 teen homicides in all of last year.

The latest fatal shootings occured Monday when gunmen opened fire on three young men sitting in a car, killing two of them, 17-year-old Cedric Stanley and 16-year-old Mark Collins, Jr.  No immediate arrests were made.

On Saturday, 17-year-old Cordarro Devon Williams was fatally shot as he and an 18-year-old wrestled over a gun.

Police Sergeant Vince Higgins says the department needs public help.  Higgins says the community has to stand up and take some responsibility to look out for each other.
