Protest Over Sale of One-Time Elvis Ranch Dropped

JANUARY 11, 2006 - Posted at 4:24 p.m. CST

HORN LAKE, MS - A protest filed over the sale of Elvis Presley's old Circle G Ranch, where the singer and Prescilla spent their honeymoon in 1967, has been dropped.

Plans for a large retail-residential development on the site of the ranch in Horn Lake, Mississippi, appear ready to move ahead.

A hearing in the dispute had been scheduled for today.  The protest was withdrawn yesterday.

Gerald McLemore, one of the sons of William F. McLemore, who died in 2002, has withdrawn a petition against the sale.

McLemore's family owns the ranch that Elvis had once owned.

A sales contract involving developer Dale Morrow and the McLemore family was approved in November by a judge.

He says work can proceed on a development plan.

Morrow says he expects to have a preliminary development plan in March for the 155-acre ranch property.
