Early Morning Storm Leaves Trail of Damage in East Jonesboro

JANUARY 13, 2006 - Posted at 7:55 a.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - An early morning thunderstorm left a trail of property damage throughout much of east Jonesboro today.

A spokeswoman with the Jonesboro Emergency 911 Dispatch Center told K8 News "the Nettleton part of town got hit pretty bad."  The most significant damage in town occured at the VFW Post on Airport Road, which lost part of its roof.  The Dollar Tree store at the corner of Nettleton Avenue and Stadium Boulevard also sustained significant wind damage.  Most of the store's signage on the front exterior was torn down.

A Jonesboro Police Department spokesman says the storm occured between 1 and 2 a.m.

Eastern Craighead County also sustained residential property damage.  A mobile home on Craighead County Road 525, one mile north of Highway 18, was destroyed.  A house in the same area also sustained some damage.

K8 forecaster Chris Castleman said the storm's winds reached 50 miles per hour at its height.
