Pryor Praises FTC Ruling in Gas Inquiry

JANUARY 13, 2006 - Posted at 4:06 p.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - U.S. Senator Mark Pryor says the Federal Trade Commission made a good decision yesterday to require Exxon Mobil Corporation to provide more information as the agency looks into gasoline prices.  Legislation by the senator from Arkansas helped spur the FTC investigation into nationwide gas prices in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The Federal Trade Commission told the oil company yesterday that it must fully comply with the agency's investigation and submit any requested information.

Pryor said the oil company had asked the commission in December if Exxon could be allowed to keep private its information on tax breaks the company received during 2003 and 2004.  The senator said the commission showed a commitment to the investigation in denying Exxon's request.
