Counterfeit Bills Turn Up in Searcy

JANUARY 13, 2006 - Posted at 4:26 p.m. CST

SEARCY, AR - Searcy police are trying to find the source of counterfeit bills that started circulating in the city this week.

Police say the $20 bills all have the same serial number, CH 75005858.  Searcy police spokeswoman Amber Dillon says the Secret Service has confirmed that the only city in which that serial number has been found is Searcy.

Six of the bills have turned up at six different businesses this week.

Police are asking businesses and individuals to watch out for the bills.  Dillon says businesses can root out the fake bills by buying a special pen that can detect counterfeit bills.

Two of the phony bills have turned up at restaurants, so Searcy restaurant owners are being urged to have workers scrutinize bills closely.
