CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - A southeast Missouri man is headed to Iraq, but he's not a soldier.

Larry Ferrell is assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri.

He and several other U.S. prosecutors are going to Baghdad to help try leaders of the former Iraqi regime before the Iraqi High Tribunal.

Ferrell says it's important for Iraqis and the world to see that there is respect for the rule of law.

He says it's difficult to leave home, but he agreed because of the opportunity to serve this country.  He expects to be in Iraq for about six months.

He has received training on subjects from cultural sensitivity to identifying improvised explosive devices.

Ferrell also was Cape Girardeau County's prosecuting attorney for three years.
