Unemployment Numbers Down in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas' December unemployment rate was 4.5 percent, down from 4.8 percent in November.

A spokeswoman for the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services said it was mostly because fewer people were looking for work.  People only count as unemployed if they are looking for a job.

The latest monthly rate is below the national rate of 4.9 percent.

The rate was very low in northwest Arkansas, just 2.6 percent.

Minorities were more likely than whites to be unemployed, with 8.6 percent of minorities unemployed and 3.7 percent of whites unemployed.
