LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ Federal Health and Human Services Secretary
Michael Leavitt made a stop in Little Rock today to assure state
officials that Arkansas will be reimbursed for Medicare
prescriptions it is paying to have filled.

Leavitt visited with health officials and Governor Huckabee as
part of an eight-state tour to address concerns with the new

Huckabee says he believes Leavitt is addressing problems with
the program and that the state aid will not have to be extended
beyond the end of the month.

The governor had declared a public health emergency because of
the glitches with the drug program.

Arkansas has paid more than one-point-five (m) million dollars
for prescriptions in the program, and claims worth more than
600-thousand dollars are pending.

State officials say 77-hundred poor and elderly in the state
have been affected.
