LITTLE ROCK, AR - The state Department of Health and Human Services today announced the formation of a Cervical Cancer Task Force to educate women on the importance of being screened for the disease.
January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. State Representative Wilhelmina Lewellen of Little Rock's bill requesting the formation of a task force passed last year. She said it will help educate Arkansans on the second most common type of cancer in women worldwide.
Experts said many women are aware that a test for the cancer exists, but that most don't know what is involved in the drug testing. They also say Arkansas women need to know that the number one risk in developing cervical cancer is not getting screened.
