ASU Won't Appeal Nickname Ban...Yet

JONESBORO, AR - Arkansas State officials say that, if they decide to appeal the NCAA's ban on the nickname Indians, it will be after February 1, when the prohibition takes effect.  The NCAA announced in August it would bar the use of American Indian imagery and nicknames at postseason tournaments.

Several schools have appealed, but Arkansas State is holding off, in large part because the school doesn't want its case to be heard by the NCAA staff committee that has been handling appeals so far.  Arkansas State President Les Wyatt says that, after February 1, the school can file an appeal to the NCAA executive committee.
