Infant Found Dead Under Sleeping Man in Pulaski County

JANUARY 27, 2006 - Posted at 11:56 a.m. CST

JACKSONVILLE, AR - A Pulaski County man was arrested after he was found intoxicated and asleep in a recliner atop the body of a three-month-old girl.

Sheriff's officials say 26-year-old Chris Johnson faces a manslaughter charge after he was arrested Thursday morning.

Pulaski County deputies were sent to a home east of Jacksonville to investigate a report of a child who was discovered not breathing.  They said the infant girl, Jade McWilliams, was taken to a Jacksonville hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Officials say the girl's parents told deputies that they found Johnson "asleep in a living room chair on top of the deceased child."

Johnson's reasons for being in the home were unclear.  Deputies say he was extremely intoxicated.  Results of blood tests are pending.

The parents of the baby have not been charged.
