ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) _ A man who tried to hold up a St. Joseph
gas station with a box knife is behind bars after two customers
trapped him inside.
Forty-seven-year-old Pedro De La Torre-Borjon is charged with
second-degree robbery and is being detained at the Buchanan County
Jail on 40-thousand dollars bond. Police say immigration officials
are involved in the case.
Officers were called yesterday morning after Borjon reportedly
threatened a female clerk with a box knife before she ran out of
the gas station. Two men who were parked outside held the store
doors shut until police arrived.
One of the customers says the suspect lunged at the door, and
later threw the cash register on the ground and started stuffing
bills in his pocket.
